MacTrack
A lightweight mobile experience designed to make meal logging effortless and macro tracking intuitive.
Overview
The goal of this project was to design a mobile app that helps users track meals, monitor macros, and share food experiences within a supportive social community. The experience needed to balance nutrition tracking with social motivation, making the process feel simple, rewarding, and sustainable for everyday users.
Problem
MacTrack solves the frustration of calorie‑tracking apps that feel cluttered and slow by giving users a simple, accurate, and intuitive way to search foods and monitor daily nutrition.
Process
I approached the project by mapping the full end‑to‑end experience, focusing on reducing friction in logging and increasing engagement through community features.
User Flow Mapping
I created detailed flows for:
Logging meals and adjusting serving sizes
Tracking macros and daily progress
Sharing posts, photos, and meal updates
Managing visibility settings for private or public sharing
These flows helped clarify the core interactions and identify opportunities to streamline repetitive tasks.
UI & Interaction Design
I designed a clean, mobile‑first interface that emphasized clarity and speed:
A macro dashboard with real‑time feedback
Serving size inputs with sliders, presets, and smart defaults
A simplified logging flow that minimized taps
Clear empty states to guide first‑time users
Social & Community Features
To increase motivation and retention, I designed:
A social feed with likes, comments, and reactions
Visibility controls for private, friends‑only, or public posts
Profile pages showcasing progress and shared meals
AI Companion Exploration
I explored integrating an AI companion to support:
Food search using natural language
Smart suggestions based on dietary patterns
Auto‑tagging meals and estimating macros
This exploration informed future opportunities for personalization and reduced manual input.
Solution
The final design delivers a responsive, intuitive mobile experience centered around fast logging, real‑time macro tracking, and community engagement. Key features include:
Streamlined meal logging with smart defaults
Real‑time macro feedback to support daily goals
A social feed for sharing meals and celebrating progress
Serving size presets and quick‑add shortcuts
Clear onboarding and empty states to reduce confusion
The experience was intentionally designed to feel lightweight and approachable, encouraging users to track consistently without feeling overwhelmed.
Impact
The redesigned experience demonstrated clear improvements in usability and engagement:
Higher user engagement driven by social features and community interaction
Reduced drop‑off through clearer onboarding and purposeful empty states
Faster logging enabled by smart defaults, presets, and simplified flows
Overall, the project shows how thoughtful UX, social motivation, and smart automation can work together to support healthier habits and long‑term consistency.
